THE HISTORY OF REVELATION (1985-1987)

The story of REVELATION began when vocalist Jimijam helped his college group STUDENT NETWORK put on a student dance in 1983 at the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College and they got a band called OUTRAGE to play at the dance and they turned it out with their dance-y urban funk'n'roll and Jimijam became enthralled with them and introduced himself to the various members of the band. Over the next few months he became involved with the band and started doing graphic artwork and promoting the band around the metro area, he even moved to downtown Washington and eventually took over as manager of the Space House on 17th Street where the various bands of their cliche operated out of, and soon they formed a record label called OLIVE TREE RECORDS and began putting albums out. They first released; HR - "ITS ABOUT LUV" and THE PSYCHOTICS - "MASS INSANITY DESTROYING CIVILIZATION", they both garnered good reviews and THE PSYCHOTICS were picked by THE VILLAGE VOICE as one of the Top Ten EPs of 1985. Being around all these musicians got Jimijam hyped up to do his own band, so he and guitarist KENNY DREAD started collaborating on some songs and the seeds of REVELATION was sowed. They rehearsed at the SCREAM house in Arlington and DAVE GROHL used to watch THEM and called them "hippies" because they liked marijuana a bit too much. They played a few gigs at DC SPACE, HUNG JURY PUB, THE COMPLEX, and HYATTSVILLE CASTLE, and they got known around town for their onstage antics and their clever songs. Eventually they went to CUE STUDIOS in Falls Church and they recorded their 6-song EP and it was quite popular on the underground circuit, their song "BABYLON DAYS" and a new song called "H.M.D.S.(HEAVY METAL DEATH SONG)" were included with several other tracks by HR, OUTRAGE, DOVE, I.N.I.C.U., and SCYTHIAN on a compilation album called "DC ROX" that was put out by WETSPOT RECORDS in England and the album got several good reviews and "BABYLON DAYS" was picked as the best song on the album. The band rattled about DC for a couple of months and then just fell apart when the various members went their own ways, and on a sad note drummer Greg Miller died of a heroin overdose a few months after the band fell apart. The EP got lost in the dusty halls of history until a few years ago when Jimijam and Kenny Dread re-connected and they digitized and re-mastered the EP and released it to the digital distributors to reach a whole new generation.
